Off duty from my weekend job, I can give you three prospectives on this subject.

First: I am a military widow, who receives a VA check. But while I am developing my own freelance writing-photography biz, of which I work full time+, and the part time job. My goal is to create my own independent living. At 54, I will not sign up for social security at 62 and be forced by the government via their tool the
IRS aka KGB to live well below the poverty level. SS is pretty much gone for my generation anyway. As
a full time RV'er I take a lot of flack for keeping my work ethic and goal. All of these people that I see out
here retiring at 62 are going to be in a world of hurt when their checks are decreased by 30-50% or cut out
all together since Austerity is coming out way. Anyone that knows me calls my rig the Scribe Cave and you bet, you are going to see my website under my name, every time. It's been a hard road to get to this point.

Second: Do you remember the F.L.D.S. (Fundamentalist Later Day Saints) fiasco?
This is by no way a hit on their beliefs, their members have talked with me on occasion and know I have a writing project based on their sect. If you are lacking on this subject there is a former member by the name of Carolyn Jessop, she wrote a book called: ESCAPE based on her successful escape with her eight kids and has lived to tell about it.
After finding a news article about a mother's children being returned to her by CPS, I found out that mother was living in a tax payer funded public housing project. Easy enough to spot since my former career was that of a home health admissions nurse.
On questioning one of their elders, I asked: "Why would you put one of your wives up in public housing and not in your own compound?"
My reply was: "We call it bleeding the beast."

Third: This comes from Social Worker's I interviewed after my husband passed away and I returned to work. What few realize is that when a social worker is sent to a client's home, they are instructed not to teach that person how to stay off government assistance. Their job is to get them on the government dole and keep them there. Thus you have the title: Social Worker.
Out of all the patients I had, only one woman in her thirties--a diabetic with MS who was bilateral above the knee amputee in a wheel chair, got herself trained as a medical records billing specialist of which she ran from her home to make her own living, small as it was, that lady had a work ethic and a goal.
Rock on sister.

So the moral to my multi-level story here is that the beast wants us to be slaves and refuses to teach us to fish and grind our grains to make bread. Yet, there those of us who refuse to walk that path and spend each day pulling ourselves up.

I will leave my PAC friends with this because 5 am in my home-office on wheels comes early:
Never give up, never give in, for only the defiant shall win.

I commend the veterans who have served the union. I know that some see a difference between a VA and a SS check. I see them both as government benefit checks. You will find that the law sees it this way too.
